Twinkles
Posted By thecircusblog on March 3, 2009
Many years ago I got a letter from Timothy Neal Tegge, stage name Twinkles. I was putting together a show when I got this photo of him. I wrote back expressing my interest in using him but sadly never heard back………well that’s show biz. His clown make-up was original and exceptional. One of the things that I was taught by some of the old-time circus clowns, that a true professional clown that did “white face” would always wear white make-up on the front and back of their necks. Those that did not were considered a first of May and was told so by the old-timers. Twinkles was not a first of May.

Greetings Ivan Henry! This entry was just forwarded to me by mutual friend Chuck Burnes. I was/am pleased to be included in your “archives” and will be sure to take a peek every now and again to see what else is happening with your blog.
My apologies for not replying all those years ago. Perhaps I was on the road at the time and lost track of your initial communication? Anyway (no excuses), it is my pleasure to finally respond! And if you’re putting together another show some time, let me know – – I have a mortgage and can always use another job!
I am on the road right now doing publicity for my vaudeville/illusion show MYSTIFICATION. Will return home – – now in Baraboo, WI – – by the weekend. First chance I get, I’ll send you an update about me, my wife, and whatever else may be of interest to you. In the meantime, all the best! Tim Tegge
