Today is June 10, 2018, the 116th anniversary of the birth of Clyde Raymond Beatty, in Bainbridge, Ross County, Ohio. The year, according to the International Genealogical Index, was 1902. Most posts have his birth year as 1903. owing possibly to a brief note obtained by another Beatty researcher. It was written by his sister, Madelyn, and signed by his mother, Margaret, stating 1903. One is left to question then, how did the IGI enter his birth an entire year earlier? Beatty’s passport records have him aboard both sea and air transports, when his correct age and place of birth must be entered on passenger manifests. These given by him in his travels put his true age back to 1902. At the time of his interment, in the Courts of Remembrance mausoleum, in Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, his widow, Jane, had his plaque read the years as 1902-1965, information that had to be correct for official death and burial records. It is difficult to question a handwritten note from his sister and mother, but other demanding uses of official papers remain. As I’ve noted, leaving Beatty fans to their own conclusions, that even in death, “a little mystery becomes the proud.” As a closing note, few may recall that Margaret Beatty outlived her son by 5 years, dying in 1970.

For those who may come to this photo: Today, July 19, is the 53rd anniversary of Clyde Beatty’s death, in 1965. Many sources put his age as 62, but the International Genealogical Index and his passport records have him born in 1902, making him 63 the previous June 10. Mr. Beatty died of cancer of the esophagus at Community Memorial Hospital, in Ventura, California. He is interred with his wife Jane at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, in the mausoleum titled Courts of Remembrance. I pay my respects there on average of about once a year.
