This is a very rare photo of, Clyde Beatty and Courtney Riley Cooper. The photo was taken in the back of the Hagenback circus 1928.

Cooper was once head of Ringling publicity, and had an exhaustive list of writing credits. Check out his career further on IMDb, and Wikipedia. I once asked Beatty about his friendship with Alfredo Codona. He had a number of memories, and concluded with, “Then, Alfredo committed suicide, and this writer guy, Cooper, committed suicide, and gee, everybody was wondering when I was gonna commit suicide.” Indeed, at age 53, on 9.29.1940, Cooper had died by hanging himself in a closet of his room at the Park Central Hotel, in New York City. He left a note asking the cash in his pocket be used to pay his hotel bill. His widow could advance no reason for his suicide, and 2 letters in his FBI file suggest he may have actually have been murdered for knowing too much about Nazi activities in Mexico.
