Between shows resting in the back yard is Clyde Beatty and Jane. On the far right the lady there is unknown to me, perhaps someone may ID her. This photo was taken in 1962……… Nice looking Air Stream trailer.

The lady @ R is Mrs. Robert D. Good, indicating the shot was taken in Allentown, PA. Beatty and Mr. Good became friends in the mid-1920s, just as Beatty was first hitting it big on Hagenbeck-Wallace. Their friendship continued until Beatty died, in 1965. In 1964, we played Allentown on June 21st, for a Sunday matinee-only. As the Beatty family driver, I was invited along for the big feast Mrs. Good had prepared. It was here that Mr. Beatty finally realized his discomforts prevented him from eating. After one bite of food, he had to turn away. Good had a doctor come to give Beatty a massive shot of B-12, in hopes, as Beatty said, “of getting the old pep back.” Nothing worked, and 2 months later, he entered Chicago’s Billings Hospital for his first cancer surgery. He did not return to the show that season. In ’65, he rejoined for a last valiant effort to carry on. In Salisbury, Maryland, after exiting the cage from the matinee, he collapsed in the backyard. Doctors told Jane it was time to take him home. He died at Community Memorial Hospital, in Ventura, California, at 2:30 p.m., on July 19, 1965. It has been shown his true birthyear was 1902. He had just turned 63 years of age. He is interred in the mausoleum titled Courts of Remembrance, at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills.
