Melvin Koontz

Mel Koontz was featured at the World Jungle Compound. Mel performed each day in a Roman-style arena. When you saw your favorite movie actor fighting a lion or tiger you can bet it is Mel. He doubled for the stars for years and he was the best at what he did. The name of the lion in this picture is Jackie.

As a child, I was always delighted when Uncle Mel would come to visit.
We didn’t see him often (he was very busy), but when we did, his stories were always exciting and fun to hear!!! I could always recognize Uncle Melvin by his legs. He had the very same short legs that all of his brothers and sisters had. (Not one of 7 of them was taller than 5’2″ tall.) Thanks for putting this blog up. Melvin used to spend alot of time before he died wondering aloud if anyone would remember him and especially all of his many “Jackies”!
