This is a composite photo that Roland Butler created having taken the elephants in the same location three different years. He then, literally cut and pasted the entire thing together to create his famed 50 elephant photo. Of course, the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus didn’t have 50 elephants on the show anyway.
