Mel had a way with cats that I have never seen before. To my knowledge he was never hurt by one of his own cats. Mel’s claim to fame was his training for the movie industry. Fighting and attacking lions were his trade mark. He doubled for many of the actors such as Tarzan/Johnny Weissmuller. He also had a working act at Jungleland Thousand Oaks, Calif. Here is where he did most of his training. To watch him train was a sight to see. His control and technique was his own. I do believe that he was the benchmark in this type of training and many learned from him.
