Posted By thecircusblog on February 10, 2015
A hero passes away at the age of 93. Capt Sid Kellner is seen here with his crew. Sid stands top left second in. Sid was born June 1921, and passed yesterday, Feb 9,2015. How well I remember our friendship going all the way back to James Bros circus, and to the George Matthews Great London circus. Sid you will be missed by many.
Your friend IVAN.

Another great one moves on too THE BIG LOT IN THE SKY !!
My first tour out of Jungleland, with the Fighting Lion act, was with Sid Kellner’s James Bros. Circus, in 1968. He was under canvas, and his show looked good on the lot. Everyone called him Uncle Sid, as he was good to his performers and staff, and easy to be around. He found humor in most things, a quality that bore him up during rain and bad lots. He was complimentary to me, and asked the Jungleland office for my return, which saw me back for his brief West Coast tours until Jungleland closed, in late 1969. I regret not having more time with Sid, but the business took me onto other shows, and at last, he retired. He leaves great memories, no small task for a circus owner, and many memorable jackpots to keep his name with us for our lifetime. Uncle Sid, rest in peace.
Ivan,
For years I have wondered whatever happened to Sid. I once worked for him, press rep ahead of James Bros Circus, 1969.
Would you know if the following makes sense – Ten to twenty years ago, waiting for a Golden Gate Transit bus in Santa Rosa, I thought I saw a man get off another bus who looked like Sid?
Thanks for offering this and the great photo. I knew virtually nothing of his background. He was a most exciting person to work for.

Hi Ivan,
Thanks for the kind words about dad. He’s missed! 93 years 7 months and change. My daughter Sarah just followed up with this tribute to dad. I hope you enjoy it. I remember you popping holes in our big top with a .22 to stop it from collapsing in a deluge…and so much more! I know my brother Matt spoke with you and says you were doing great. All the besty friend, George Kellner
