Don At Disney

Don Philips was always a top performer. Please make comments if you know the other fine performers in this photo. Thank you Carol for all of your comments and information.

The performer in the first row on the right is Terry O’Brien, another unicyclist and also, I think, a low wire act. Standing behind him and to his left is one of his sons. I am standing beside Don’s table. beside the white pole. Of course you know who the guy with the big ears (on the far right) is. I think the lady to the far left in the grey wardrobe is Terry’s wife, Camille. The other three girls were not performers, but were “walkers” in the parade.
Other circus performers who had floats in this parade in December, 1978 were Moore’s Mess of Mutts, Van Dowens Seals (and that year they also had penguins), and Merle Cooke had his comedy car which he drove in the parade. The bookings were handled through Paul Kaye, who submitted them to Disney. A representative from Disney traveled from Disneyland in California to see the acts in action wherever they were working at the time, and then the chosen acts were hired by Disneyland in California to perform at Disney World.
