Geronimo

Photo taken in 1901. Geronimo stands in the center of this group of people. To His right is Princess Wenona …. rifle and revolver sharpshooter. Standing to her right is Buffalo Bill Cody. In 2005 myself and Jim Redcave, a close native American friend of mine took a trip to the San Carlos Apache reservation. I was invited to attend a four day sacred ceramony. I have been to numerous spiritual Native American gatherings to celebrate the creator but this one I will always remember with honor. The trip was long, hot and very tiring but it was worth it as we were greeted by the elders of the tribe as we drove into camp. As custom has it Jim and I brought some gifts, they were given out to the medicine man and the clan leaders. The women came over to us and was handed us a plate a meat and potato stew. I looked over at a very old tree that gave some shade and sat on part of it’s trunk. After the first bit of food was eaten, I looked up and I saw everyone around me watching me. The medicine man that I had just met walked over to me and said, “do you know where you are sitting “? I did not quite know what to say, so I said yes this tree invited me to sit here…. “No” he said. “He did…. Geronimo did”. This is the tree that he sat on when he was in this camp. The medicine man touched my head, then the clan leaders came by nodded and touched my shoulders.
Pete ….Thank you for this photo.

It also appears to have a Great Plains Medicine Man called Sitting Bull!
