Ringling Bros
Posted By thecircusblog on November 16, 2012
I had a tough time rendering this negative to this photo. I am fortunate that I got anything. Still can’t make out the art work but the notes say that it is a painted side cottage cage wagon 1901. As always a circus fan will come to the rescue with more information.
A very informative comment from Bob Cline. Please read Thanks.

Hello Ivan,
This is one of the 16 original cottage cages that were built in the winter of 1895/1896 in Cincinnati by George Schmitt. In 1898, the Ringling Bros, leased the entire John Robinson’s 10 Big Show to become a second unit. In the process of closing the season and the return to the Robinson farm, 4 of these cottage cages ended up remaining on the Ringling show. Fred Dahlinger and Stuart Thayer authored an informative piece about these four cages in the Bandwagon’s Nov. / Dec. 1998 issue as found on pages 34-36.
