Jungleland & Kids

One of the most popular things to do at Jungleland was to feed the animals. Small packets of grain was sold to feed some of them. It was not a petting zoo and there had to be some overseeing of what was fed to the animals.
Randy thanks for your comment.
Janice Chandler spent most of her young life at Jungleland. Her father Ray Chandler was one of the top trainers at Jungleland. Please read her comment.

This giraffes name is Henry. He was probably the most photographed and remembered of all the Jungleland animals. His image was used in a lot of the publicity materials in the 60 s.It also gave recognition to the ride that Don Mclennon did for the Dr. Doolittle movie. I was lucky to witness the training which was done at the Big Barn.
We lived in a trailer in the front by the office and Henry’s pen was right there. When we would leave in the morning Henry would always wrap his tongue in my mom’s hair. I was raised in this zoo and Mr. Gobel’s backyard. Those were the days!
JANICE is right. My favorite song of that era came from Mary Hopkin, who sang,
“Those were the days, my friend. We thought they’d never end.”
