Mandrake and Velvet

In the early 1950’s Dad and I did a Christmas show at the Shrine auditorium in Los Angeles. Leon Mandrake needed help with a gimmick on a trick called the “Floating Handkerchief”. The magic act was after the chimp act and there was a rush for me to get across stage to get to the gag that moved the silk threat that make the hankie float. I am most likely the only chimp man that can do magic.

Hey Ivan…Mandrake! I got to do a series of christmas shows with him when I was pretty young (early sixties). He told me about early magic show days when he had a traveling train show. I was in awe of those stories. He was pretty old even then but did great magic in his act and would do fabulous card stuff between shows. My sister Carol and Ben Myers(Dewayne) were on those dates. I wonder how Ben is doing? I credit him with teaching and setting an example of comedy for my troup that was invalualble.
