Again, per Richard Flint, this is a Pete Mardo photo that has been reproduced thus it doesn’t carry the Mardo stamp on the back of it.

Clyde Beatty joined out on August 16, 1921, on Howes Great London Circus & Van Amburgh’s Wild Animals, in Washington Court House, Ohio. He immediately fell under the tutelage of Louis Roth, there on loan from Al. G. Barnes. When Roth trained out a tiger act, he departed, and Beatty’s schooling was taken over by John C. “Chubby” Guilfoyle. By 1925, Beatty was on Hagenbeck-Wallace, where he took over the major lion and tiger mixed act from Pete Taylor. He remained on that title through 1934, so this photo is of his 3rd season there, on the cusp on international stardom, and very much in his prime.
