Hi!
I’m working on a new TV series and I’m looking for the owners of the Hoxie circus for their permission to use their circus poster in the background of one of our locations. Do you have any connection to them or any contact info?
Thanks!
hoxie circus reply . this may be late but he has been past away for years now i think. What TV series are you working on or is it produced already ? My father worked with him and ran a combined show with him
hi, I actually ran away with The Hoxie Brothers Circus when I was 15 yrs. old and mentioned in the book called Mud Show by Fred Powledge. It was probably one of the most memorable experience I have ever had. Not only did I go to Fla. with them, I also joined up the year after and went to Fla. with them again. The second year is when I received a copy of Mud Show, and had it signed by alot of people in the book. It got stolen from a bus terminal while traveling. It was not until one of my coworkers found out I ran away with the circus as a kid, did I try to locate another copy. I then found mr> powledge, whom is still alive in arizona. I found his e-mail address and actually sent a copy of the book to him, which he signed and sent back. I now have a signed copy of a little peice of history, and I am actually part of it.
I bought a poster announcing a July 20thHoxie bros show at a local elks club in Saratoga County…I framed it since it came on property adjacent to mine.
Sorry The website isn’t running yet. Are you related to Gary Henry? I bought the Boots Madden Elephant back in 1972, and had Gary and his brother drive some trucks for me to the Valley. Gary later cam to work for us, on the Lewis Bros. Circus. Hoxie and I were partners in this Circus, and I also was the General Manager of the Hoxie Bros. Circus when it closed. I was just curious when I saw the name Ivan Henry.
I’m not sure what made me think of this circus at this particular time. Back in the early to mid 60’s, The Hoxie Bros. Circus came to either New Holland or Lancaster, PA. I worked for them every summer helping to set up and tear down, feeding the animals and putting new bedding in their cages, working as a barker and my favorite thing… washing and general interacting with the elephants and the horses. It was a yearly adventure into the circus world for which I was paid 75¢ an hour, all I could eat and drink, numerous gifts and cash bonuses from the different barkers and free tickets for my family…as well as a lifetime of happy memories.
