Mabel Stark

I admired this woman and her animal training skills immensely. The way she moved in the arena around the tigers was sheer poetry. I saw her last performance at Jungleland, Thousand Oaks, CA.

This photo was taken during Mabel’s 1954-1957 engagement in Japan. The background is of the Nippon Traveling Zoo set-up. The Japanese immensely honor their elders, and Mabel was treated as a goddess over there. She was provided a private railroad car, a chauffeur-driven limo, and a personal maid–perks similar to those given a great American movie queen.
Such a beautiful picture of Mabel..
