E.K.Fernandes Circus

Mr. Fernandez would take the circus from island to island and spend a week or more on each depending on the size of the island. Most of the performers were from the mainland or Mexico. I was there twice with the chimp act in the early 60’s. When we were there we flew from island to island. In the early years, they went by boat….this one looks a little overloaded.

Went there with Ted DeWayne in sixties with my family. There was a really elegant horse act on show with a small horse riding on the back of maybe a clysdale. A tradgedy happened when they shipped animals to mauai and the large horse died from heat. I forget who had chimps on that show but they got loose and got up on the high wire and did a pretty respectable act. We strapped our surfboards on the teterboard and sure loved that date…
