Long Lion Cage
Posted By thecircusblog on August 28, 2008
The long cage was used for shifting lions to and from the circus ring where they performed. They would load them on flat bed trailers for traveling over the road. At any one time the circus could have 20 to 30 lions, most of which were menagerie cats for exhibition. Quite often Grandfather would donate lions to zoos or other shows because he did allow them to breed. Sometimes it became a problem, just too many cubs to feed and handle. Standing at the cages is Todd Henry and I believe Judy Jacobs she is the wife of Terrell Jacobs a famous big cat trainer. Terrell and Judy would visit grandfather show often.
