Portrait photo of Clyde Beatty and his wife Harriet, 1934 0n the Cole Bros Circus. Harriet worked a tiger riding on an elephant. Beatty of course worked his big cat act. This was the last year for Cole Bros. This photo was taken by Harry Atwell who was known for his specializing in circus photos. Great comment by Edward Russell ……….. Please read.

Greetings,
1938 was not the last year for the Cole Bros. Circus. Zack Terrell and Jess Adkins started the Cole Bros. Circus in 1934. Jess Adkins passed away in 1940 and Zack Terrell continued running the show until 1949. The show was purchased by Jack Tavlin and had a very poor year in 1949. The show was purchased by Arthur Wirtz of the Chicago Stadium Corp, in 1950. The show operated in stadiums and ballparks until July 5, 1950 and then opened the under canvas run. The show closed early and that was the end of the Cole Bros. Circus under canvas.
