Show Biz Dictionary: “Ragout the Top”

Posted By on December 14, 2008

Ragout the Top:  After the Big Top was in the air and all the peaks were pulled, a group of 6-10 men would walk along the stake line and take hold of the pull ropes, tugging at them to tighten the tent to the stakes. The rhythm was: “take a rope, hold it tight, hit it, jerk it, pull it, down stake it, all right, walk along.”  The group would then go to the next pull rope.
