Yes I knew her very well. Each time I saw her in the arena, I was totally amassed. Mable’s presents in the arena was fast and deliberate. At Jungleland Mable’s arena was apart from the main stage, she did not like the stage arena as it was haft round bar fount with a wall behind to complete the arena circle. She preferred to work on the ground in her own cage. There is another person that I know of that was close to Mable, his name is Roger Smith, he too a big cat trainer. If he sees this post I am sure he will write a comment.

Carmen Henry worked with chimps that almost out weighed her and never once had a problem. At that time we were working four to five chimps. It all started with Carmen’s first appearance in the act, on a Paul Kay date, in St Louis, Mo. Paul had a 6 ring display, he asked me if we could split the act, then said there will be extra money. Carmen spoke up and said “I can do it”. She worked Big Jack and Chaeta. Her part in the show went as smooth as silk.

Hand to hand balancing with Makimba. If my memory serves me correct this photo was taken while on the Miller Johnson Circus. Hanford, California early 1960’s.
