Don Philips

I remember well every day on the show we both had to practice together. There was no time for play, so we combined practice and playing. That’s when Don started inventing his own style of juggling and tricks. We would try to outdo each other. I was no match as he wold come up with a new idea every day.

Don, Carol and Diana. At this time stage name was Van Noys. Knowing Don, there must have been some comical reason for this stage name.

Philip and Bonnie Bonta. 1947 Ringling show. In the 1950’s they were with us on the Siebrand Bros Circus which is when Don and I met and became friends.

Photo taken in 1947, Chicago, Ill on the Ringling show. From left to right is Philip Chanez Bonta, then Bonnie Bonta. The other three performers are Jannetje H. Touw, Hendrics Hilsing and Neeltje Von Soolingen. Bonta was the stage name for Philip and Bonnie. Their son Don legally changed his name to Philips in the 1960’s. Thanks to Diana Philips the daughter of Don and Carol Philips , I have these photos.
A must read comment from Carol Philips.

After the Siebrand Bros Circus changed their acts…. which they did every two to three years, the Bonta family went to a different show and I lost track of my friend Don. Then one afternoon while playing El Paso, Texas in the late 1960’s….. guess who showed up? Don and his wife Carol came to visit the show. It was the first and only time I met Carol. We pulled out of town with the show and once again we parted, this time never to see each other again. It was only though the circus blog that his wife Carol created the friendship over again and told me that Don had passed away. Now Carol and Diana keep me posted on the Philips family and they are the ones responsible for the photos.
