Kurt Anden Schmidtona had a second act on the Siebrand circus in 1953. He and his daughter Tina did a very strong hand balancing and head to head act. Tina had perfect control of herself. She and Kurt, her father, practiced every day without fail. Tina was an excellent performer. I heard not to long ago that she now lives in Las Vegas, Nev.

Anden had a mixed group of dogs when I saw his act. As you can see in this photo, the act was quite different than other dog acts. He did a lot of head and foot balancing with the dogs, even though it was worrisome to the audience to watch the tricks they did enjoy the act.

Mel trained this lion for motion picture work. To his surprise and much to his financial good, this lion became one of three lions that were the M.G.M. logo at the beginning of their movies.

This act was one of the funniest acts I have ever seen. Their comedy was fast and furious.In the mid 50’s we worked several fairs together. They were a tough act to follow. This photo was taken on the Gatti Circus in 1971.
