1957 – the first year that the Clyde Beatty Circus was motorized (off of rail cars). The same lot – at Washington and Hill Street – was used by tented circuses for many years including Al G. Barnes, Ringling Barnum and the Clyde Beatty RAILROAD Circus. Today the site is a few blocks from the Santa Monica/Harbor Freeway interchange and a short distance from the Staples Center Arena – now home to the Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Circus during its annual visit to LA.
