It is said that Mr. Barnum coined the phrase , “That a sucker is born every minute.” I was told by a circus fane and a promenade one at that. Not true. Adam Forepaugh actually was the person.

I believe the comment was made by a newspaper man commenting that Barnum believes their’s a sucker born every minute and was misunderstood to have been said by the showman. Barnum, in fact, respected the public that made him a wealthy man.
