Frank Phillips shown here at Louie Goebel’s Lion farm before it became the World Jungle Compound at Thousand Oaks, California. This photo was taken in 1948 as near as I can tell. Frank was also a trainer at the World Jungle compound, when Richards and Horne were partners in the compound in the 1950’s.

Many studios used the compound for their location shooting for a jungle type environment. No matter how many times Mr. […]

Here is Babe when she was near seventy years old. Photo taken mid 60’s at World Jungle Compound, Thousand Oaks, Calif. When I was a child on the circus I would sneak out at night from our house trailer and go to the menagerie where I would curl up to Babe and Dutch and sometimes fall […]

World Jungle Compound proudly presents Pat Anthony. I posted this picture of Pat for my new friend Wade Burk. In the bottom right corner very faintly can be seen ” Best wishes Pat Anthony.” After the performance Pat autographed photos and gave them to the audience as everyone wanted his autograph. All I can say is you were one fine performer […]

Seen here is Bill Horn at Jungleland as we called it but many called it the World Jungle Compound. This Leopard is doing a plank walk, not to be confused with the wire walk which is two cables side by side. Thank you Jackie Kunpp for photos.

Mel Koontz was featured at the World Jungle Compound. Mel performed each day in a Roman-style arena. When you saw your favorite movie actor fighting a lion or tiger you can bet it is Mel. He doubled for the stars for years and he was the best at what he did. The name of the lion in this […]

This indeed is a very rare photo taken in 1949 at the World Jungle Compound. Frank Phillips broke in this act, but as you see here, Joe Horwath worked it. As Wally Ross would say, “in all of my any time and put together I’ve never seen this before!” Nor have I. Just look at these […]
