Clyde Beatty was one of the most exciting cat acts in the business. There were many that tried to copy him, but none succeeded. However there were other acts that did through their personality and fine training would and could satisfy any audience…..Roger Smith and Pat Anthony and Mable Stark. My personal view is! I can’t stand […]

There is no question that Beatty set the bar higher with a fighting big cat acts. Proof is, many copied his style of act even down to his wardrobe. That I think is a complement to him. It is also true that many were just as good as Beatty, its just that he was first in line for the glory.

Between shows resting in the back yard is Clyde Beatty and Jane. On the far right the lady there is unknown to me, perhaps someone may ID her. This photo was taken in 1962……… Nice looking Air Stream trailer.

In Clyde Beatty’s career another aspect of show business took over, the movie business.Being a circus performer was put in second place, not that it ended, it’s just that the motion picture studio kept him busy. If you saw any of his movies you would have to admit that Clyde did a pretty good job as an actor.

Beatty raised his own Tigers and Lions. He bred stock at his compound so he never was in need for great looking animals that he broke into his act. It is obvious in this photo that Clyde was proud of his cats. Clyde Beatty was not the only one that bred their own cats however. This is Roger Smith. My mistake Roger. […]

My question is, what circus was this. Beatty, or Cole. On the ad it just says railroad circus. Many circuses would present a TV or Movie star to bump up the attendance. Most of the time the star did a personal appearance in center ring during the show and later sign autographs. This ad was taken […]
