Dead Man: a log or 4×4 that is buried deep in the ground that is wrapped with a cable which extends to the surface to which a guy line is attached. It’s purpose is to hold the safety lines tight for the center poles. This method is the last resort in soft or muddy soil.

Stake Line: Steel axle rods surrounding the circus tent to guy off the tent…used in hard ground. Another type is called a stob, made of oak and used on sandy lots.

G Top: This word is all but extinct…it stands for a tent where performers and work crew went to gamble. They were private games, the town people could not play. The last G top I saw was about 40 years ago.
