Robert “Hap” Henry’s elephant Marie, doing a little promo with Larry Finley. Los Angels, CA. A few years later while doing a show with Rudy Bros, at a ballpark in one of the suburb cities of Los Angeles a horrible incident accrued. Hap finished the act with Marie his elephant and was running with Marie back to the semi to load up. It was the last performance of the evening and there was a heavy due on the grass making it slippery. My uncle Hap fell while running and Marie by accident kicked him in the back of his head. Only by chance a few performers saw what happened and came to assist him. Hap was severely hurt, He needed hospital attention, which he received. There was not much the doctors could do for him, except wait. After two weeks they sent him home. My father and I went to visit him again, I am so happy that we did, a few days later he passed away from his trauma.

I really don’t know how I got this photo. It was among all the other old pictures. On the back it says 19o5. Blackfoot, Idaho. Note the platforms sleighs, and what looks like Merry-Go-Round horses in front of them. This amusement ride had a steam operated cable or belt that ran off a large fly wheel. It can be seen in the foreground of photo.

Dandy would even surprise me with how high he could jump. Dandy was one of six trained Dalmatians that were in the Henry Bros Circus at Legend City Amusement Park, Tempe, Ariz.

I remember we did 8 shows that 4th, not only Shorty, but chimps and dogs as well. We opened Legend City at 12 noon and stayed open until 1:30 am. My two sons, Solon and Gabe, worked the acts with me all that day. Good little troopers.
