This is one act that I would liked to have seen. The photo comes from the Carson Collection. 1950’s. Great looking little Chimp.

Roman Proske was considered one of the great tiger trainers of our era.

During his act one of his tigers mauled him. The fast work of his cage men saved his life.

Shown here is an attendant helping Roman from the arena and later to the hospital. I am told that he recovered from his injuries. Many a trainer’s life has been saved because of the acts of good cage and safety men and not to forget those prop boys that were fast on their feet and fought off a cat from the outside of the arena. My personal experience with Pat Anthony when I was his safety man for a time. Thankfully, I never had to go into the arena but I was always prepared to go if necessary. There was also Bill Johnson who was Pat’s right hand man and Pat could always rely on… God Bless Bill.
