This photo was given to Doc Capell from Ben Davenport. Ben was also a friend of the Henry family. When I saw the photo, I liked it and asked Bill senior if he would give me a copy. As you can see he did. I thought this photo would add to the circus blog, Ben was a true showmen.

From Left to Right: Doc, Mame, Bill, Bob and Jack Capell. A great circus family. They later built a carnival with their circus. In 1975 Henry Bros. joined the Capell Bros. show.

Bill Dedrick was a friend of our family for many years. Not only was he a good trainer of ponies, horses and dogs, he was one of the best show painters and did magnificent banner lines. The above photo was given to Bill Woodcock Sr. from Bill Dedrick. Somehow it got into my collection of old photos. I sent the original to Buckles Woodcock.

Mr. Fussner and family. He presented the most unique rolling globe act of it’s kind. He would balance on the globe to the top of the spiral and then back down again. It was exciting as well as dangerous.

Cronin Bros. Circus 1943. On this show my Mother did four acts. The Rolling Globe, Swinging Latter, Spanish Web and her Dog act.

Cronin Bros. Circus. Practicing before a performance. 1942. That season the circus had a blow down. It took about three weeks to repair the big top but the show continued just using the side wall.

Cronin Bros. Circus 1943. Dutch was a play mate of mind when I was a kid. Dutch and Babe were two loving elephants and both gentle. There will be photos of Babe later in the upcoming posts. There was many times when a lot we played would have an abundance of grass, this was good and bad. It was bad because of a fire hazard, Good for the elephants and horses. Quite often the show would play on rented farm land near town. Usually there was left over Hay or Alfalfa from the farmers cut. The elephants were left to grazes and it was also play time with the kids on the show. Play for us was running around and underneath the elephants, and swinging on their trunks. It was a great time for myself and the show kids, as for the elephants they just tolerated us. Of course it was always under a watchful eye of Joe Metcafe the shows elephant man.
