This is a photo taken from a newspaper. It was mainly about Mable Stark and The World Jungle Compound. The man in this photo is Chubby Guilfoyle, one of the finest big cat trainers ever known. He not only broke cats he taught the men who aspired to be cat trainers one being Pat Anthony. In the spring of 1950 Chubby Guilfoyle started teaching Pat at the Jungle Compound. Pat Anthony learned the trade under the G.I Bill of Rights. An eleven year old by the name of Manuel King from Brownsville, Texas caught the eye of Chubby and he trained both cats and the boy and successfully presented the act to the circus world. The intresting thing is that Chubby worked the act from outside of the arena.

My mother took this shot in 1949….where I don’t know, but I do remember my Mom and Dad visiting some friends that were on the show.

North Platte, Nebraska in the earlyor late 1949 or 1950’s. I am hoping Buckles Woodcock will give me some information about this photo. Up date 8/23/09 This photo is the Miller elephants Siebrand Bros Circus. Up date 8/ 27/09 from Judy Jacobs these are the parents of Buckles Woodcock, Babe and W.H.Woodcock.

The interview for this article was with Buckles Woodcock’s father, Col. H. W. Woodcock in the early 1950’s . Fred Logan worked with W.H.Woodcock who was in charge of all the elephants. Woodcock worked and trained for Al G. Kelly & Miller Bros Circus.
