THE CIRCUS REPORT

circus-report

No one asked me to put this little plug in for the circus report. I think that it is important that we support this very informitive  news piece that is published each month. Even if you are not in the business and are just a circus fan or a person who has an interest in the circus,  you should take a moment and read this….it is very informative.          Thank You… my regards to all.

Buffalo Bill

While going though some more old photos and posters I found this letterhead along with a Buffalo Bill poster. This Buffalo Bill poster, along with others have suffered from being rolled up for 45 years …..some even longer. The process to flatten them out carefully will take quite some time but I can’t wait till I can photograph them for the circus blog……………………… What you see here is not a poster, It is part of an old letterhead……….. I wish I had the rest of envelope.

Houdini

Houdini

This studio photo was taken in 1920. Houdini starred in a movie serial called “Terror Island”. This movie was a silent… it had no sound track. The lines for the actors were written on the screen. Just below the stage and in front was a pit where a person played a piano for background music. The musician had to be quite versatile in different types of music and had to keep with the tempo of the action.  Thank you Jack for the Photo.

Lillian Leitzel

Posted By on March 1, 2010

lillian-leitzel In those days, Lillian Leitzel was known as the queen of the circus.  In this photo she is doing swinging one armed phalanges.  She would do this over and over to the cadence of the circus drum and the audience would count as she did them.  It was said that she did over 100.  Ringling Bros 1930.
