ptbarnum-print-ad-1873

The paper is so fragile and is easily torn if you’re not careful. I have a friend who deals in old works of art and understands how to preserve these old new sprints. I just got this ad today 3-29-10. This little bit of history is one hundred and thirty seven years old.

ptbarnum-photo-ad

This is an original news ad of March 15, 1873. My son Michael found it in a small antique shop.  I had to scan it into several parts to get the perfection of the lithograph art work.Tom Thumb is seen near the leg of the hipo just above the snake. What is thrilling to me is his autograph is in part 2 of this ad on the next page. I hope you enjoy this. as I have enjoyed  posting for you these wonderful bits of circus history.

As you can see,  the full ad is hard to read and chops off much of the important information. I wish I could have scanned the entire write up, but it is to large.

Tusko

Tusko #1

This picture was taken at the Al G. Barnes winter quarters in Balboa Park. Tusko a few weeks later broke both of his tusks while in musk. Tusko was known as one of the most magnificent circus elephants and even to this day bull men speak of him.

Tusko #2

Tusko on the Al G. Barnes Circus. It got to the point where Tusko had to be put in chains, This prevented him form hurting himself or his handlers. Bull elephants can be very dangerous when they come into musk. His handlers in this photo are …..”Bull Hook” Jackson standing in front of Tusko and to the rear is Joe Metcalf. I knew Joe and Anna Metcalf as a kid on the 101 Circus in the 1940’s

I came by this photo in rather an odd way. I received a phone call stating that there was some photos that someone had left for me at a photo developing shop that I frequent. I would like to say thank you to that person for the nice gift.  This is a photo of the Clarks…. they were with Siebrand Bros circus and carnival. They had attractions on the midway and Harry Clark performed in the circus with his trained dogs and horses.   Photo was taken in the early 1940’s.

An Old Photo Siebrand or Clark

Posted By on April 5, 2010

This is a mystery to me. This photo had to have come from someone that had access to the Siebrand show.  This lady could be Mrs Clark or one of the Siebrand wives of Hike or Pete Siebrand. I hope to get a comment from one of the grandchildren. The condition of this photo tells me it is of the early 1900’s. This is one of the photos given to me anonomously however I know who the “anonomous” person is.
