Bill Capell Collection. Many of the photos in the collection were publicity shots that performers sent to submit their act for the Capell Bros Circus.

I have very little history on this act, but I do recall their name from years ago. Hopefully someone out there in the circus world can help with info.

The Flying Siegrists

At the time of this photo, the troupe had an address in Houston, Texas. This photo had to have been taken in the very early 1950’s. It has laid around with my other photos for years.

Siegrist ?

This could be a totally different flying act. Notice that there are four people in this act.  It is very possible that they added a new member to the act. The rigging looks the same but don’t they all………… HELP.

Two Humps are Better

Posted By on September 13, 2011

Yes, it is true, two humps are better than one. If you have ever ridden a Camel or Dromedaries you know what I mean. A Camel has but one hump in the center of his back, which makes it very uncomfortable to ride, so you have to sit behind the hump or in a specially-made saddle. Still, it is the most miserable thing you can do.

Camels come from the Middle East and are used as beasts of burden. They are also important desert transportation and have been so for thousands of years. The animal in this photo is a Bactrian. They have two humps, and have a ready made saddle. These animals come from the Far East Asia and Mongolia, and some are found in the Gobi Desert. They, too, are used as beasts of burden and for transpiration. Both of these animals are, for the most part, pretty well domesticated, however they can, in a moment’s notice, become quite dangerous and have been known to inflict severe bites and even kill.

This a Capell Circus Animal from the 1940’s. The person is unknown to me.  Bob……………… Thank you for the corrections and your comment.

The Eriksons.  A pretty stunning trick if you ask me….. A question from me. I have never seen this type of head balance before. Is this an original of theirs?

MIss Wood EDIT

Here is another photo from the Capell Collection. This very well could be one of the acts on the Capell Circus. I was able to make out her last name only, Wood. If you know of this person, please inform me.

Doc Capell had his circus on the road for many years and of course he hired many acts, This is where a lot of these publicity photos come from. The Capell Family also performed in the show. When his three sons married, their wives began performing.

Later, Doc expanded his show with carnival rides. Eventually it became totally a carnival, and Bill Capell carried on with an even  larger carnival, which then evolved into amusement parks – three to be exact.
