Joe and Eva Horwath

Posted By on January 27, 2012

Joe and Eva Horwath on the Atayde Bros circus, photo late 1959 or 1960. I understand that Gil Gray sold his show’s cat act to Atayde in 1957 or 1958.  Joe worked the cats for the Atayde circus. In 1957 Eva Vasquez married Joe Horwath. His son and grandson at this time are seeking information on Joe concerning where or what show he was with during the years of 1967 to 1972. If you have any information, email me and I will put you in touch with his family.

I believe that the young man in this photo with Joe is his son Joseph.  This photo was taken on the Atayde Bros circus. The year is unknown to me, most likely in the 1950’s.

Joe is lifting the safety door of the cat cage. This door was 6 foot long by 6 or 8 inches high and was used for cleaning the inside of the animal cage. It also made it much safer and easier to feed the cats by sliding the chunks of meat though the opening. This horizontal door was hinged to the bottom of the steel bars and would only open wide enough to do the jobs explained above. This photo taken on the Atayde Bros circus 1958 or 59.

Tusko

Tusko was on the Al G. Barnes Circus. There were only a few men that could handle him and even then it was a chore. There are great stories about Tusko. Just go onto internet and enter his name or Al G. Barnes. Great history.
