Dick is working on a trick promoting the 4th of July at Jungleland…. or at this time World Jungle Compound. The idea was for the tiger to carry the firecracker in his mouth and to put it down on command. This training was for a newspaper ad. This photo was taken in 1965. The area at jungleland was known as Tarzan,s Jungle. The same area where they shot all of the outdoor scenes for the Tarzan movies, featuring Johnny Wiesmuller.

This is Chet at Jungleland 1959. He was performing in the back yard arena which also was used by Mabel Stark. Many of the cat trainers chose this arena from the main arena because the floor was dirt, the main arena stage floor was cement.

For those of you that grew up in Los Angeles, Calif. in the late 1950’s though the 1960’s you may remember these television kid show heros and personalities. From Left to right: Skipper Frank, Engineer Bill, Bill Stulla, Tom Hatten , Dick Sargent, Captain Zoom, Chucko the Clown, Chef Millani (who was also the image for Chef Boy Ardee), Sheriff John and Walker Edmiston. From time to time in the Los Angeles area they would make special appearances with circuses and variety shows that we were with. The kid show characters were a huge draw for the show and really were not that expensive to hire.

This act has me in a quandary. I think the show is the Rudy Bros show, sometime in the early 1960’s. I need a little help on this one too. Last moment thought could this be the……….. Vidbel elephant act?

I hope I am correct in naming this photo. Billie Schuller sent it tome for the circus blog. Her family was on the Dales Bros Circus in the late 1940’s.

This was a heavily loaded pole wagon. It took an 8 horse hitch to pull it. At the rear of the wagon it looks like there may be another hook up. This could be a double wagon set up, which was a common practice. I am thinking that this might be a Ringling pole wagon or Al G. Barnes?

A friend of mine just sent me this photo of Chief Sky Eagle. The last time I saw Sky Eagle was on the 101 Ranch Wild West Show & Circus in 1946 and part of 1956. Sky Eagle was one of the main attractions in the show demonstrating his skills in native American archery. He was a dead shot with bow and arrow. This photo was taken in 1947 at the Sun Valley Rodeo, Idaho. He was a full blood Sioux Native American. Even though I was a kid at the time I appreciated him as a performer, but more over a fine and proud person. He was someone you could look up too. There is a close up photo of him in the 101 Wild West Show….Look in categories.

Also Thanks to Patty Sky Eagle for the correct information on his tribe. Note from Ivan. Sky Eagle never told anyone that he was from Canada and did say that he was Sioux for show biz pro moe. I am sure he had his reasons at that time!

This photo was sent to me along with the Sky Eagle photo. These three girls are Native American performers, most likely with or family of Sky Eagle. Photo shot in 1947, at Vernal Rodeo. Utah. The name Kitchenettes was on the photo this basically is all I know.
